Will your new cabinet furniture fit?

Will your new cabinet furniture fit?

When furnishing any room, consider the largest piece first, the dining table in the dining area, the bed in the bedroom. Your furniture should be arranged in a way pleasing to the eye, comfortable to use and convenient to move around.

If you’re having difficulty envisaging whether your new furniture will fit, one idea is to make a newspaper template to see the amount of floor space it takes up.

Dining rooms

  • If you don’t have room for carvers, consider buying additional side chairs which can be stored in another room.
  • Try the chairs out at the side and ends of the table. Make sure there is enough room for your knees. You should be able to flex your legs to be comfortable during dinner parties.
  • Most dining sets come in a variety of sizes. We also have extensive catalogues from most of our suppliers, some of whom will custom make exactly what you want.
  • If space is tight, consider an extending table which allows extra seating when you need it.
  • Always measure the dining table fully extended with the seats pulled out as if they were occupied. You need to get round it easily carrying hot dishes.
  • If a display cabinet is too big for your room, the base unit can often be sold separately.

Bedrooms

  • Bedsteads are normally slightly wider and longer than the standard size mattresses that fit them. Make sure you have enough room to walk round the bedstead easily.
  • Wardrobes are large items of furniture. Many are made to come apart for easy access.

If you are at all uncertain about access, please ask, we are here to help. We can sometimes make arrangements to assess the access for you. If access through your doors is too tight, it may be possible to get the furniture in via another route, over the years we have climbed over fences, entered through windows and on one occasion taken furniture in through a balcony.
